THUNDER BIRDS
Soaring circles
full of grace
catching upwind scents
of decaying flesh.
Giant paradoxes of the air―
turkey vultures, we call them,
with long featherless necks
suited to clearing away the spoils.
Unpretentious―
combining refined flight
with primordial dining.
